I got 3 young Toulouse geese today (same as Goosey). They are old enough to be out on their own but still just growing feathers so they're in the so-ugly-they're-cute stage.
They LOVED Goosey but she couldn't get away from them fast enough. Poor little ones probably think she's their mother. Why she didn't immediately try to Nanny them is beyond me because she does so with all the Canadian babies.
Anyway, until they figure things out please watch out for them. They may get in the driveway, barn or become new playthings for dogs (don't let your dogs chase them please).
I'll be adding ducks in a few weeks, waiting for them to get a little bigger before bringing them here.

Miscellaneous Stuff
Sand purge begins tomorrow.
Added pictures to the website so it looks like a finished project now. I'll tweak as needed & start taking pics of boarders & their horses.
Planning on hot dogs for Middleton. If you're bringing additional people with you please let me know before Friday so we have enough food.
Mike Williams is handling the hot dogs. Holly is handling buns & condiments. I'll bring the slaw and homemade southern baked beans.
We need chips, desserts, plastic silverware and any other covered dishes someone might want to add.
Bring your own drinks & coolers.

New Website

A wonderful friend & client purchased my .com for me when I was getting ready to take over the barn. She hasn't had time to do anything with it and forgets to transfer ownership back to me so that I can control it.
The wait was killing me so I bought the .org & .net extensions then built the site. Eventually the .com will point to the site I created making it so that any one of the three whistlestopstables extensions will work but for the time being use the .org or .net

Horses Coming & Going....
Fidel went off to Middleton Stables today for a short trial period. We'll know on August 1st if he's sold or coming back.
A new gelding named Doodle will be arriving on the 31st and will be on pasture board.
A new mare named Grizzly will be arriving sometime next week and will be in a stall next to Meg. She and Meg will be pasture mates.
Pickles is moving back into the barn. He confided in me that he'd had his fill of mares & is much happier with Jasper.

Bojangles Update
Bojangles went back for another follow-up yesterday and was told he looked almost completely healed. We just have to start treating his wound with a topical now to help avoid infection as the injected antibiotic will wear off on Wednesday.
Park West Vet hasn't charged me for the last two follow-ups, only the initial treatment. I know they usually charge an office visit fee so I really appreciate their kindness.
Thanks to everyone for the donations. I've received $77.00 towards his $182 vet bill. Susie donated $65.00 the day of the initial visit.

Arena Scheduling & Lesson Policy
Due to a recent conflict I'm posting my policy regarding arena use as a reminder....
1. Scheduling is only for jumping lessons but I encourage everyone to look at the schedule so you don't come out to school fences only to find a lesson is going on. Jumping lessons are entitled to use 2/3 of the arena (grass/jumps & one end) when others are in the ring.
2. A flatwork lesson can happen in the arena at the same time as a jumping lesson but the trainer & rider must limit their use to whatever end isn't being occupied by the jumping lesson.
3. Boarders are allowed to ride when lessons are going on, they are just not allowed to jump, interrupt, or disable a lesson by being in the way. Respect the space and time of those who are paying for their weekly lesson.
4. The dressage ring is available for flatwork, no galloping.
5. The open lawn to the right of the arena is also available for controlled flatwork, just pay attention to people & animals around you and maintain a safe distance.
I appreciate that it can be distracting and somewhat limiting at times to have more than one lesson going on in the ring but it is something everyone at Whistle Stop has to find a way to deal with.

The ring is an amenity offered as part of the price of board so it needs to always be available to boarders.

Bojangles Update
There's no keeping this cat down. Bojangles' fire is returning and he's feeling much better. He seems to be thoroughly enjoying sleeping with Amie though. I'll have to now make sure he isn't hiding in the car before I start it everyday.
Huge thanks to Gia, Chipper and Kelly Evans for their donations towards Bojangles' vet bill!!!! He sends his thanks and promises to come out for a visit very soon. He goes back for a follow-up on the 20th so he should be able to return to terrorizing barn animals at that time. I'm sure that dogs everywhere will be overjoyed by the news.

Bojangles Seriously Injured
Bojangles was inside the engine of the Kubota when I started it up around 10am. His neck & throat were sliced by the fan blades & belt so he's in bad shape. He's very anemic, lost a ton of blood and may need a transfusion.
The wound is so large and just under the chin that it can't be wrapped. It needs alot of stitches but due to the trauma to his tissues there was nothing the vet could do to close it. Please keep your fingers crossed for him.
If anyone can afford to contribute towards his vet bill I'd greatly appreciate it. The vet at Park West Veterinary was really generous and gave me a $150 discount. Today's bill was $182. He goes back for a checkup on Friday and he'll have several more.
I'll bring him to the barn some and keep him in a dog crate so that I can keep an eye on him until he's out of the woods.

Horses Out Today & In Tonight
Horses are going out today and staying in tonight. Pasture boarders will be moved to Little Joe & Houston’s paddock tonight since the run-in and fans will help give them a place to get away from the fireworks.
Neighbors on 3 sides do fireworks long into the night so I’m trying to minimize the stress to the horses and the risk that they’ll get loose and run spooked during the night.
